The Roof Caved In!

Image
In an area near us where some very expensive homes are built, we saw one of the homes which was still under construction, with the roof caved in.  There is a website forum with news from the peninsula and this event got quite a bit of attention.  The owners were devastated and sent a crew out to dismantle the entire roof. Photo after the entire roof was removed.  Poor roof construction has been the reason for the collapse.

We may regain custody of our car!

Hello friends. I'm sure you are wondering where we have been. Unfortunately, our internet has not been working and we do not know why. We were able to get a MiFi hotspot device today to restore our internet connection. We do have some catching up to do, so I will get right to it. This past Saturday, Linda and I went to the San Felipe village to do a teaching session with the ladies there. Several churches send their ladies to this church once a month for our teaching sessions. We have begun a Bible study with them called "Search for Truth". This Bible study takes the student from the book of Genesis all the way through to the book of Revelation. My Bible chart is very old and quit small. Since we have about 15 ladies in the class, I made a copy of my chart and gave one to each lady. We have encouraged these ladies to take this Bible study back to their churches, villages and families and teach it to them as they learn from us. There is another group in the Stann Creek d

Butterfly Migration

I want to share something beautiful I have witnessed for the first time. I was sitting on our upper deck yesterday evening looking at the lagoon, when I noticed dozens of yellow butterflys sweeping by. I stood there for a while to take in is lovely sight and noticed that they just kept coming and coming. It finally dawned on me that this may be a butterfly migration. When I got up this morning, sure enough, it was still going on. I looked up "yellow butterfly migration in Belize" on Google, and I was right. Every year in July about this time the Yellow Sulfur butterfly migrates south. Just south of us is Honduras, so I am guessing that is where they are going. This beautiful migration goes on for about a week. I could sit here for hours and watch this. I wish my grandkids were here to watch this with me. It's a quiet, slow day today, but that is all about to change soon. This weekend begins a very packed schedule. The Abernathy's, Craig and I will be going to seve

Breakfast Burrito

Image
Good morning friends.  I just thought I'd tell you what we do on a day when we are not going somewhere to teach or minister. Today we walked to the end of our block and ate breakfast at a little place called Chix. They serve the best chicken, also donuts which are not so great and breakfast sandwiches. We got a potato, egg and bacon burrito and split it. Ok, yes, I did get a glazed donut too, which we also split, though I admit I ate the lions share of the donut. We brought our own coffee because the Mayan girls that cook there make it so strong you can stand a spoon straight up in it. After we ate, we walked across to street to the sea side to check out the beach area there. No one keeps up that area of the beach so it is full of sea grass. There is a small area you could swim in near a resort area. We may go there some day. No one else swims there, so it is nice and private. Then we walked down the road a bit to a tiny health food store. It was very expensive. We can get mo

Russia and Random Notes

Image
Hello friends..... We want to say hello to our latest blog reader from Russia. We hope you enjoy our blog and continue to read it. We would love to hear from you sometime. God bless you. We just finished a couple of services with another pastor and his wife, Kevin and Dawn Shindoll. Their church helped with the building and funding of the church in Trio. The Shindoll's were here to celebrate their 25th anniversary and to visit the church they helped build. It was a pleasure to meet these sweet people. We fell in love with them right away. Pastor Shindoll delivered a great message to the church Sunday night. One person received the Holy Ghost and several were healed and blessed. After the service, the pastor's wife, Dawn, made balloon animals for the kids which they were CRAZY about! What a blessing these people are to the work of God in Belize. We are in the big, fat middle of the rainy season now. Almost every day we have a very hard rain with thunder and lighting.

Texas and Trio Village Connection

Image
We were blessed to have Pastor Kevin Shindoll and his wife Dawn with us this past weekend.  His church in Hurst, Texas near Fort Worth was one of the supporters in the construction of the Trio Village church. There is a strong connection with the churches in North Texas and the Trio village. There was about 75 children and young people present along with 25 adults. The first photo is with Pastor Shindoll speaking in English and Missionary Dwayne Aberthany translating into Spanish.  It is a challenge in Southern Belize with a combination of English, Mayan Cache and Spanish being spoken.

US Marines Landed

Image
Two US Marines Landed ...... at our house!! For the rest of the story ....... Our neighbor had one of his nephews coming to Belize for a weeklong visit along with a friend, both of whom are US Marines.  He asked if they could stay with us in the lower level screened in area. Our neighbor has a very small house with no room for both visitors. We had been using the lower level for storage being we 'lived' upstairs.  The lower level has a bathroom and an outside shower as well.  The lower level is only 'screened', hence there is no a/c there. Staying there was most certainly an adventure in itself. Cody, pictured on the left, is the neighbor's nephew from Missouri and Sergio is from Southern California.  There were no issues at all while they were here.  We did hear about an eventful night they had the last day they were here.  I'll have to leave those details out of this blog posting.

Trio Village Church Dedication

Image
Friday night, June 30th we were blessed to attend another church dedication in the village of Trio.  The church was full and it was exciting to see how the work has progressed in such a short time.

North Texas District came to Belize

Image
Four ministers from the North Texas District came to Belize this week to participate in a church dedication in the village of Trio. The North Texas District provided both financial support and sent a team to put the roof on the building. We were blessed to have Pastor Rick Flowers, Pastor Jonathon Harris, Missionary Hall from Africa and Pastor Andrew Coiner.  Pastor Flowers ministered in that service about the 'Lost Coin'.  Eleven (11) people received the gift of the Holy Ghost in that service.
